PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth are out of the Indonesia Open 2022
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic winner, was knocked out of the Indonesia Open 2022 in the first round following a straight-game loss to China's He Bing Jiao in the prestigious Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. This follows her quarter-final setback at the Indonesia Masters last week. Despite preserving several match chances in the second game, the 7th seed succumbed 14-21, 18-21 in just 47 minutes.
PV Sindhu lost 14-21, 18-21 against He Bing Jiao in the first round of the women's singles.
Sindhu's form has dipped ahead of the CWG 2022. The bad form of Sai Praneeth this season has persisted.
India got off to a slow start in the event, with superstar shuttler PV Sindhu losing her first game to China's He Bing Jiao. Sindhu was defeated 14-21, 18-21. Meanwhile, B Sai Praneeth is out of the competition after losing his opening match to Hans Vittinghus by a score of 16-21, 19-21.
Chang Tak Ching/NG Wing Yung defeated Ishaan-Tanisha in mixed doubles, 21-14, 21-11. Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy fell in straight games against third seeds Takuro Hoki and Teo Ee Yi in men's doubles, 21-8, 21-11.
The sole bright spot of the day was veteran Ashwini Ponnappa/N Sikki Reddy and Sameer Verma's strong efforts.
Sameer Verma had a no-nonsense effort against Frenchman Thomas Rouxel, winning 21-19, 21-15.
Ashwini-Sikki comfortably defeated Srivedya Gurazada and Ishika Jaiswal, 21-15, 21-8.
The Indian duo were defeated by their opponents, who controlled the match and won it in in two games, 21-14, 21-11.
In the men's singles event, India's B. Sai Praneeth fell in the first round to Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus on court 3.
Praneeth was comprehensively outplayed by the Danish player, who won the game by a score of 21-16, 21-19 in just two games. The second game was a nail-biter.
In the first round of the men's doubles event, the Indian combination of Attri Manu and B. Sumeeth Reddy were defeated by the Japanese combo of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi. PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth crashed out in the first round of the Indonesia Open 2022, giving Indian shuttlers a bad start. Ashwini-Sikki and Sameer Verma are the only ones who have progressed.
